The Institute for Intellectual Property Management (IIPM) conducts research on how to manage Intellectual Property (IP) from both business and economics perspectives. It is among the first institutions in China's leading business schools dedicated to research, education and training on Intellectual Property management.
The IIPM works closely with the National Institute for Innovation Management at the School of Management of Zhejiang University as well as other Departments and Schools at the University, in particular the Technology Transfer Office and Zhejiang Intellectual Property Exchange Center. The Institute also cooperates with other academic and research centers focusing on IP Management around the world. Important partners of the Institute are the Intellectual Property Offices of major countries and other IP related organizations associated with the Chinese central and provincial governments. A main focus of the Institute is undertaking joint research projects with leading companies in the healthcare, automotive, and internet industry.
The IIPM publishes its results in international academic journals and conferences and provides research reports to sponsoring companies and institutions. The Institute organizes regularly events (conferences or academic workshops) on IP Management.
The IIPM is led by two directors. The staff currently consists of post-doctoral researchers and postgraduate students. The Institute is advised by an International Advisory Board which meets at least once a year and consists of representatives of the School, the University, the Zhejiang Government, institutional sponsors and international experts. The Directors as well as the Board are appointed by the Dean of the School of Management.
