It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the Website of the Institute for Intellectual Property Management (IIPM) of the School of Management of Zhejiang University. Intellectual Property has become increasingly important in the world, evidenced by the growing volume of patent and trademark applications. Many multinational companies have already incorporated IP strategies into their overall corporate strategy and transformed their IP departments from cost to profit centers. In China, patent application volumes and research and development (R&D) investments are growing rapidly as well. However, in the area of IP Management, differences between Chinese and leading European and American companies are still significant. In the pursuit of the ‘Going Out’ strategy, Chinese companies are facing tremendous challenges with regards to IP and demanding high-caliber human resources with training on IP management. Chinese universities and business schools can play an important role and contribute to human and technical capacity development. Within this context, the School of Management at Zhejiang University, one of China’s most prestigious universities, has recently established an Institute dedicated to education, training and research on Intellectual Property Management. In our Institute management scholars and economists research topics like IP strategy, value extraction and licensing and so on. The IIPM also works closely together with the National Institute for Innovation Management at Zhejiang University which is one of the leading institutes in innovation management studies in China sponsored by the National “985 Program”.
In March 2015 the Inaugural Ceremony of the IIPM took place and we are very proud that the Institute was officially opened by Dr. Changyu Shen, the Commissioner of State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China.
The research of IIPM aims to comply with the highest academic standards. At the same time, the Institute positions itself in the society with very practical approaches. To achieve its goals, the Institute works closely together with governmental institutions, industry and other academia both in China and in other parts of the world. Companies are invited to sponsor the Institute and enjoy many benefits, such as dedicated projects focused on company and industry specific issues.
We are very proud to lead the IIPM and welcome you to have a look at the other pages of the website. You are even more welcome to visit the IIPM in person to discuss topics of mutual interest in the field of Intellectual Property Management.
Sincerely Yours,
Frans Greidanus
