On April 6-7, 2016, Prof. Can Huang attended the “Workshop on Understanding Science, Technology, and Innovation Engagement between China and the United States and European Union” in Lisbon, Portugal and gave a presentation on “Drivers, Obstacles and the Role of Umbrella Initiatives” in the EU-China and US-China science, technology and innovation cooperation. The central objective of this workshop is to understand the nature, dynamics, priorities, and trends in science, technology, and innovation cooperation and collaborations that China has between the European Union and the United States. The workshop was jointly organized by the University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC), a research center on security, environmental, and economic policies, and by Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação, a Portugal-based consulting firm specialized in Science, Technology, and Innovation. It is sponsored by the U.S. Office of Naval Research Global. A group of around 25 American, Chinese and European policy-makers and researchers were invited to participate in the event.
