Prof. Zheng Attended Session Meeting on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies of UNECE

On November 28 – 30, 2017, Professor Suli Zheng attended the Twenty-seventh Session Meeting of the Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies (WP.6) of The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) at Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland. As standards make the world more resilient and more sustainable, this session focused on "Standards for the SDGs". Representatives from International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, the Russian Federation, etc. attended this meeting. At the meeting, representatives discussed the opportunities that standards offer for reaching the SDG Goals and targets, such as international regulatory cooperation, risk management in regulatory systems, recent developments in standardization and education on standards-related issues and market surveillance were discussed. This is the first time China participates in WP.6’s work, WP.6 Chairperson Ms. Marion Stoldt and Secretary Ms. Lorenza Jachia had a roundtable discussion with the representatives from China. Ms. Stoldt appreciated the participation and expressed the hope that China could contribute more cases and experiences in standardization and sustainable development.
