On April 27, 2018, the Institute for Intellectual Property Management, School of Management, Zhejiang University (hereafter "the Institute") held an Advisory Board meeting in Hangzhou. Ms. Ingrid Baele, Head of IP&S Offices & Operations of Royal Philips, Mr. Daniel Yan, Head of IP&S China of Royal Philips, Mr. Xiaoming Qi, Chief Technology Officer of Opple, Mr. Jonathan Yu, General Counsel, Legal Department of Opple, Dr. Yu Cao, Vice President of Zhejiang Intellectual Property Exchange Center, Prof. Bowman Heiden, Co-Director of Center for Intellectual Property, Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg, Sweden, Dr. Bart van Hezewijk, Officer for Science and Technology of the Dutch Consulate in Shanghai, Prof. Jiang Wei, Dean of School of Management, and Prof. Frans Greidanus and Prof. Can Huang, Co-Directors of Institute for IP Management of School of Management and other invited researchers attended advisory board meeting. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ruud Peters, the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Institute. At the meeting, the Institute’s advisory board members and invited participants discussed three ongoing projects, including Third Year’s Collaborative Project with Royal Phillips, Standard Setting Organizations, Standard Essential Patents and FRAND and IP Strategy of Chinese Information and Communications Technology Companies.
Dean Prof. Wei gave a welcoming address, stressing that IP is becoming an increasingly important issue for China, and emphasizing the needs of companies for IP training and the opportunities in that area for future collaboration with the partners of the Institute. Prof. Frans Greidanus, Dr. Xia Liu, Mr. Felix Conde, and Prof. Suli Zheng gave presentations, followed by the discussion with participants. The participants suggested that the Institute should collaborate with Chinese multinational companies (e.g. Opple), offer intellectual property training to corporations, study the university patenting activities and their invention and utility model patents, and further collaborate with European and American institutions.
