On the afternoon of April 25th, 2018, the Conference “New Economy, New Energy and Intellectual Property to Boost the Transformation and Upgrading of Enterprises” was held in Zijin Innovation Town on the 2018 World IP Day. The event was jointly organized by the Science and Technology Bureau of Hangzhou Xihu District, Zijin Innovation Town Management Committee, Zhejiang Intellectual Property Exchange Center and Zhejiang Zijin Innovation Town Construction Investment Co., Ltd, and co-organized by the Institute for Intellectual Property Management, School of Management, Zhejiang University and JZMC Patent and Trademark Law Office. Nearly a hundred managers and intellectual property officers from dozens of companies participated in the event.

Participants shared their views on the development of Chinas intellectual property system, as well as challenges and opportunities under the new economy, from the aspects of investment, management, and services. Mr. Zhang Guozhong, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Bureau of Hangzhou Xihu District, discussed the importance of strengthening the intellectual property protection. Mr. Tang Yueqiang, Director of the Department of Electronic Invention and Examination of the Patent Office of the State Intellectual Property Office, emphasized the importance of high value patents. Mr. Yu Mingwei, Partner of JZMC Patent and Trademark Law Office, discussed patent litigation. Moreover, Mr. Cao Yu, Vice President of Zhejiang Intellectual Property Exchange Center, highlighted the role of intellectual property in the development of enterprises and economy, and gave a brief introduction to the business and development of the exchange center.

In his presentation, Prof. Can Huang gave a speech about intellectual property management, and explained the strategy of intellectual property, which was highly commended by the participants. He also introduced that there will be further cooperation among Zhejiang Intellectual Property Exchange Center, IP Academy of Singapore and Institute for Intellectual Property Management at School of Management, Zhejiang University to develop training courses to help enterprises to improve their capability of IP management.

This event was successfully organized and provided an opportunity for enterprises, investors, universities and service providers to exchange, and assisted enterprises to explore new models of intellectual property operation and management.
