On October 4th, 2019, the Brookings Institution organized an event to discuss "The U.S.-China Technology Relationship in Flux". Chinese telecommunications companies like Huawei and ZTE have taken actions that have attracted strict sanctions from Washington and technology policies become more central to the U.S.-China relationship. In the background, the event focuses on the question how the two parties can manage tensions and also promote continued economic development and innovation. More than 200 audience attended the event.
A panel of experts on international affairs, technology policy and political science from the U.S. and China were invited to discuss the emerging U.S.-China technology relationship. The event was introduced and moderated by Ryan Hass, the Michael H. Armacost Chair and Fellow, John L. Thornton China Center of the Brookings Institution. The experts and scholars participating in the panel discussion include Prof. Can Huang, Prof. Henry Farrell from George Washington University, Prof. Abraham Newman from Georgetown University, Assistant Prof. Yellng Tan from University of Oregon and Dr. Adam Segal from the Council on Foreign Relations.
