Prof. Xiaobo Wu obtained bachelor degree from Department of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University in 1982, master degree and Ph.D. degree in management from School of Management, Zhejiang University in 1989 and 1992, respectively. He worked as an Assistant Engineer in Ministry of Forestry and the Energy-saving Technical Service Center of Zhejiang Province from 1982 to 1986. He has worked in School of Management, Zhejiang University since 1992 and served as Head of Department, Director of the EMBA Education Center, Associate Dean and Dean. He was a Post-doctoral Fellow at Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand in 1996 and a visiting scholar in University of Cambridge, the UK from 1996 to 1997 and a Fulbright visit scholar at the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2000 to 2001. In 2004, he was selected into the New Century Outstanding Talent Program of the Ministry of Education of China. He was awarded the special allowance of the State Council.

Prof. Xiaobo Wu served as members of the Academic Degree Committee of Management Science and Engineering of the State Council and Steering Committe of Management Science and Engineering Education of Ministry of Education, board member of the Chinese Management Science and Engineering Association, founding member of International Manufacturing and Management Research Center of the Cambridge University. In 2005 he created the Zhejiang University-Cambridge University Global Manufacturing and Innovation Management Joint Research Center and acted as Director at the Zhejiang University side.


He carried out more than 20 research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Social Science Fund, various ministries and provincial governments. He published more than 100 academic papers and more than 10 books.


Based on observation of globalization and development of developing countries, he has proposed "secondary innovation" management theory in the 1990s, and conducted groundbreaking research on indigenous innovation, technological catch-up and strategic management in the context of developing countries.
