Dr. Can Huang is a Professor at the School of Management, Zhejiang University. He is Director of Zhejiang Provincial Research Center for Data Intellectual Property, Executive Deputy Director of the National Institute for Innovation Management of Zhejiang University, and Co-Director of the Institute of Intellectual Property Management (iipm.zju.edu.cn) at the School of Management. Professor Can Huang’s research interests focus on innovation and intellectual property management, as well as science and technology policy analysis.

Professor Can Huang is a member of Technical Committee of the ISO 56000 Innovation Management Standard and the National Knowledge Management Standardization of China. He is also a member of advisory board of Research Center for Technological Innovation of Tsinghua University, and the Asia Pacific Innovation Conference. He previously served as a Member of the Global Future Councils of the World Economic Forum (2023-2024), Associate Editor of Technovation (2020-2024), Associate Editor and Senior Editor of Management and Organization Review (2017-2023), and Editorial Board Member of Journal of International Business Studies (2020-2022). He also sits on the editorial boards of SSCI-indexed journals such as Journal of International Business Policy, Industry and Innovation, and International Journal of Innovation Studies.

Professor Can Huang received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Master’s degree in Engineering from Renmin University of China, and his PhD in Industrial Management from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. In 2006, he was a visiting research fellow at the Technology Policy and Assessment Center, School of Public Policy, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. From 2007 to 2013, he worked at the United Nations University-MERIT in the Netherlands, where he served successively as Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow. After 11 years of academic study and work in Europe and the United States, he returned to China and joined Zhejiang University in September 2013. From 2019 to 2025, Professor Can Huang served successively as Assistant Dean and Associate Dean of the School of Management, Zhejiang University.

Professor Can Huang has won more than 20 domestic and international academic awards, including the First Prize of the 9th Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences) from the Ministry of Education of China, the Second Prize of the Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the Second Prize of the 20th Zhejiang Provincial Outstanding Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences, the Business Development Research Achievement Awards of the Ministry of Commerce of China, and the Distinguished Editor Award of Management and Organization Review.

In recent years, Professor Can Huang has led a number of research projects funded by a wide range of institutions, including the European Commission, Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Social Science Fund of China, National Intellectual Property Administration of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang Provincial Intellectual Property Administration, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development, Ningbo Municipal Government, China Patent Protection Association, Royal Philips (Netherlands), Alibaba Group, and Opple Lighting Co., Ltd.

Professor Can Huang is actively engaged in international academic cooperation. In recent years, he has organized multiple international academic conferences, and has been invited to deliver research presentations and lectures at domestic and foreign government agencies including the World Intellectual Property Organization, European Patent Office and European Commission, as well as numerous prestigious universities and research institutions in the United States, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Singapore, Mexico, Hong Kong, and the Chinese mainland.
