Based on the Annual Survey of Industrial Enterprises and China Patent Abstract Database, the project analyzes R&D and patenting activities of Chinese high technology companies.

This project conducts a literature review to compare the role of IP in promoting the development of science and technology economy and industries in the USA, Europe, Japan and South Korea and to investigate how the value of IP (an important intangible asset) is realized in these markets.

This research employs patent family indicators to establish a database and statistical indices that reflect overseas patenting activities of companies from particular cities in the USA, Europe, Japan and South Korea.

This project studies technology companies of various types from a particular city, analyzing strategic plans and practices of their IP management in order to gain a better understanding of the problems that the companies face and their demand for policy supports.

The research reviews the empirical literature, in both Chinese and English, on China’s technology transfer policies both in Chinese or English which mainly cover three aspects: 1） Reform of China’s science and technology system and how the trend of innovation activities evolves in China.
